The Niagara District Baseball Association announced today that the Rookie
Rep division would be expanded to allow Select House League teams to play in a
reduced schedule loop, so as to promote more teams at the Rookie level, and
allow smaller associations to offer more competitive baseball.
Rookie teams would still play their normal house league schedule, but a Select
team drawn from those teams could play extra games.
Pelham first launched Rookie Select seven years ago. Over the years, we have
offered Rookie Select teams when the numbers warranted it.
This is a great opportunity to offer additional baseball at a more competitive
level to those PMBA players who would benefit from it and enjoy it. There may
be 2 full-time Rookie Rep teams and 4 Select teams that enter this loop. The
PMBA can field a Rookie Select team at very low cost (compared to a full Rep
team), with a team shirt and the cost of home games as the only real
additional cost.
