This Week in Baseball – Peewee Championship Day

Championship Day at Centennial Park on September the 11th ended the 2016 baseball season for the Willowbrook Nurseries Pelham Panthers. The day began with a baseball game against the Star Tile Centre Peewees. The Willowbrook Panthers won 11-5. Zach Perna’s triple knock and Michael Dykstra’s downtown dinger had the bench cheering with excitement! Cole Langendoen went three for three and pitched two solid innings. Following the game the teams had a skills contest that included pitch, hit and run. Zach Perna won with 569 points! Anderson Stulp broke a second place tie with Jacob Shirton with a run off around the bases. The fun filled day ended with pizza and drinks for the Pelham teams. Midget Team Wins Niagara Interlock Championships

The Willowbrook Nurseries Pelham Panthers season came to an end losing their final game to the Beamsville Stingers 14-7.  The Panthers would like to thank their coaches, sponsor and fans for their support throughout the year. Even though the season has ended for the Panthers, they had many memorable moments on and off the field. Go Panthers Go!!

The Pelham Medical Associates mosquito rep team started playoff action this week, loosing a heartbreaker in extra innings to St. Catharines. A strong pitching appearance by Riley Smyth and Lucas Grant kept the game close while the bats of came alive with a double by Andrew Behring and a two run homerun by Jason Sviergula. The Pelham Meridian Blue Jays had an impressive 19-16 win on Thursday, August 11th over the first place Welland Yankees. Both teams had great at-bats in the first three innings. After 3 innings, Welland had a slight 9-8 lead. Pelham opened up in the 5th inning with 5 strong runs and followed up with 6 more in the 6th inning. This Week In Baseball – Week of August 1st

On Thursday, August 4th, the Meridian Rookie Blue Jays had an exciting 15-6 win against the Welland Mets at Chippawa Park in Welland. The game was very close for the first 3 innings with the Welland Mets shutting down the Pelham hitters with strong defense. The 5th inning saw the game explode with hits by every Meridian Blue Jay player pushing the team to the maximum 7 runs and taking a commanding lead. Highlights of the game included a 3 run triple by Chase Purdy in the 3rd innning and a 3 run triple by Adam Freure in the 5th. Cole Tresham crushed his 2nd grand slam of the season as well. Jack Rivers had an impressive game in the field and at bat, his swing is looking great and he has been a reliable player at the plate, regularly getting RBIs...

The PMBA T-Ball division held its annual All Star game on July 28th, with players from each of the 6 teams playing an exciting action packed game. After showing off the skills they have developed this season, the players had a chance to try the pitching machine, which is used in the Rookie Ball division. This Week In Baseball – Week of July 18th

The Meridian Credit Union Rookie Blue Jays won a very exciting game in Port Colborne on Wednesday, July 20th, beating a strong Mariner team 14-9 in their first playoff game. The evening was full of exceptional hitting highlighted by T-Ball call up Nico Koppejan hitting 3 for 3 in his first Rookie game and Cole Tresham hitting a 2-run home run in the 5th inning and a Grand Slam in the last inning. Pelham started strong with a 2-0 lead, but were pushed back by strong hitting and fielding from Port Colborne leaving the Blue Jays entering the final inning down 9-8. The Blue Jays fought back in the final inning with 7 hits and 5 runs. Tresham’s Grand Slam was the clear highlight of the night. The bottom of the final inning had Port Colborne’s strongest hitters lined up...

The Pelham Medical Associates Mosquito Rep team played in a local Thorold tournament this weekend, coming up just short in a great game against Lasalle.  Despite the 7-5 loss, the Panthers finished strong with the bases loaded in the last inning.  Excellent fielding plays were seen in the game from Matthew Oakes, Ryan Culig and Trevor Heaslip. Riley Smyth came in to close the game strong with several strike-outs and no runs allowed. Finn Mitchell-Moore expertly caught two full games over the weekend...

On Thursday June 30th the Bromac Construction Mosquitos took the field with Beamsville #2 team at Ted Roberts Park. It was a slow start to what turned out to be a great game for Pelham.  The game began with a few tough calls in the first inning, but by the 4th, things started to pick up and it was tied 6-6.  Although there were many walks, finally after the 5th inning excitement started to kick in when Trevor Heaslip hit a grand slam for his second home run of the game...

This Week In Baseball – Week of June 20

The Pelham Medical Associates Mosquito Rep team had a great home match against the Binbrook Bisons, taking the game 24-7. Mitchell Morden got his pitching debut and closed out the win.  The bats where on fire, with home runs hit by Finn Mitchell-Moore, Lucas Grant and Matthew Oakes.  Another beautiful pop-fly catch was made by third baseman Alex Sawchuck.

Wednesday’s ball game saw the Willowbrook Nurseries Pelham Panthers beat the St.Catharines Giants 7-0. The team’s convincing win witnessed triples hit by Connor Denbak and Zach Perna. Nathan Denbak showed his speed with a double play in the 4th. Ryan Harold pitched two flawless innings. Mike Dykstra also pitched well and led the team in RBI’s. Cade Royer had a strong offensive game going 3 for 4 at bat.
